A message from a TA:

“Vivian Brown & Sadys Benavides from Primary Colors Dixon deserve a big round of applause, not only for successfully completing the school year as first year DPK teachers but for continually meeting requirements and pursuing greater understanding of why and what they were doing for the children and families.  They are fine examples of "Intentional Teachers" and we are very excited to have them as part of the DPK team!”

Congratulations teachers and directors!

Program Achievements and Highlights

Durham PreK expanded in many ways during this school year. Durham PreK is a locally-funded program with an immense amount of community support. Since the first 5 classrooms launched in the spring of 2019, it has grown to 39 classrooms in collaboration with Durham Public Schools, Durham Head Start with Families and Communities Rising, Inc., and NC Pre-K with Durham's Partnership for Children.

Family Engagement

Teachers and staff also planned exciting and engaging events for families.

It's been a wonderful year in our classrooms!

Professional Development

Durham PreK is committed to high-quality early childhood education and to providing professional development opportunities for teachers.

A.S.K. Conference

Each year, Child Care Services Association hosts the Advancing Skills and Knowledge Conference for early educators across the state. A new addition to the conference is the Durham PreK track for all Durham PreK teachers. The track is a specialized theme catered for Durham PreK teachers in particular, and is often based on teacher and TA feedback or requests.

This year's theme was "FLIP IT -Transforming Challenging Behaviors." On February 18th, 2023, 67 Teachers attended to learn from experts in the topic!

Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling® (LETRS®)
