During National Apprenticeship Week, the Durham Early Childhood Educator Apprenticeship program was thrilled to spotlight 4 of the participants in our inaugural cohort. Meet these 4 apprentices to learn more about why they decided to become early childhood educators, what excites them most about the apprenticeship program, and their hopes and goals for their careers.

“I decided to be an Early Childhood Educator because I love to be part of the young children's development by teaching  them values early enough in life to enable them to build a solid foundation in the future."

“What excited me the most about the Apprenticeship Program is that it gave me the platform to learn more about the early education of young children by providing me with all that I need to excel. Also, it gave me more opportunity to pursue my long term educational goals in life with 100% support."

“With my full thanks to those that came up with this recommendable program: This program works- Guaranteed!”

Works at: Randy’s Five Star Academy

Works with: Preschoolers

“From an early age I liked teaching children. I always wanted children to feel safe and supported, and I wanted to encourage them to strengthen their social and emotional well-being. I can say that having many conversations with children, listening to them and learning about their interests is rewarding."

“I always wanted to work in this field, but the truth is that I did not have the financial resources to do so. I am a single mother of two children, and it has been difficult for me to continue with my studies. Having said this, what excites me the most about the program is that it is free and thanks to the program and God I will be able to finish my career goals."

“My goal is to graduate from college and obtain my Early Childhood Education Degree and my hope is to continue doing what I am most passionate about, which is nurturing and educating children by promoting kindness, justice and respect for others.”

Lizzy Hopkins

Works at: Kids R Kids RTP

Works with: Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers

"I decided to become an early childhood educator because as a former homeschooler, education has always been important to me. And I not only want to further my education, but the education of others as well. That's why I'm happy to be a part of a program that not only allows me to take my education to the next level but also encourages and supports me throughout this chapter. I can't wait to see what comes next after I graduate. One of my goals is to open a parent cooperative program to enhance the creative learning needs of children and provide a community for them and their parents."

Ashley Bojoy Nolasco

Works at: Latino Educational Achievement Partnership (LEAP)

Works with: Children ages 3-5

“I decided to become an early childhood educator because I enjoy working with children. A better way to work with children is to be part of making a positive impact on young children's lives by helping them learn and grow."

“Through this apprenticeship program, I'm so excited for all of these opportunities and guidance we will receive in order to succeed in our career. This will not only benefit us personally but also help provide a high level of education to children to be well prepared for Kindergarten."

“My career goal is to earn an associate's degree in early childhood development. I would also like to gain the necessary skills to properly lead my own classroom.”
