Pre-K COVID-19 Update

June 26, 2020

Dear PreK Applicants,

Durham PreK Partners are closely monitoring the impact COVID-19 will have on the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Several unknown factors make it difficult to proceed with child placement according to our original timeline. The following information is needed before we can send child placement information to families:

  • Governor Roy Cooper’s reopening plan for North Carolina schools
  • The Division of Child Development and Early Education’s (DCDEE) reopening plan for the NC Pre-K program
  • Durham Public Schools’ re-entry plan
  • Guidance from the Office of Head Start

After we receive information from the above sources, Durham PreK can proceed with child placement. It is our goal to send initial notifications to families in mid-July.

Please understand that start of the school year may look different due to local, state, and federal health and safety measures. We are working with school leaders and monitoring the guidance from health and safety experts to plan and prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. Durham PreK Partners’ number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of the children and staff at each site.

We encourage you to frequently visit our website for accurate and up to date information. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Bilingual Pre-K Application Specialist at 1-833-PREK-EDU or prek@childcareservices.org.

Thank you for understanding,

Durham PreK Partners
