MaryAnn Black

A Champion for Early Childhood in Durham, NC

Durham PreK and Child Care Services Association (CCSA) are saddened by the passing of North Carolina Representative MaryAnn Black. She was a steadfast champion of early childhood education throughout her time as a Durham Day Care Council Board Member, Durham County Commissioner and in the North Carolina General Assembly. Whether through her advocacy for universal preschool in Durham or her myriad other projects, MaryAnn cared deeply for her community and it showed.

"When I think of MaryAnn," said CCSA President Marsha Basloe, "I think 'grace' and 'compassion.' She will be deeply missed but remembered for all the hard work she did to help improve the lives of our young children."
